MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis man has been arrested and charged with arson after police say he threw Molotov cocktails at his neighbor’s house.
The woman who owns the house on Carrolton Avenue said one of the bottles hit her front window and landed on her porch, but said police found evidence he had thrown at least three Molotov Cocktails near her home.
Fortunately, she said the house didn’t catch on fire.
“I didn’t hear when he threw it. I heard the glass shatter,” said Carolyn Orr-Craig.
Orr-Craig said she and her daughter told police Derrick Ross, 27, was responsible and that they had been feuding for about a week.
She said Ross broke out the back window of her daughter’s car, slashed three of her tires, and then damaged her windshield.
“We haven’t the foggiest idea why,” Orr-Craig said. “We don’t even know this Child.”
When MPD went to Ross’s house, they said he admitted he was responsible for the Molotov cocktails numerous times. He also said he was seeking revenge because he felt someone at the home shot at him. However, police say there is no report of a shooting incident.
When police arrested Ross, he said, “when I get out, I’m going to get even. I’m never calling the police.” He also said he “will get street justice.”
Orr-Craig said she and her daughter, her granddaughter, and two young great-grandkids were all in the house when Ross tried to set it on fire and could have been seriously hurt.
“We could have been dead. We were in the house asleep,” she said.
Ross is expected to appear in court on Jan. 24.
