Stabbing suspect shot by victim at gas station, police say

MEMPHIS, Tenn.– Memphis Police responded to a shooting at the BP gas station in the 800 block of Crump around 1:33 p.m. Thursday afternoon.

Police said a man stabbed one person and attempted to stab at least one other person after a vehicle crash around I-30. Seemingly acting in self-defense, investigators say one of the victims shot and killed that man.

WREG spoke with a man who goes by “Mr. Black”. He’s lived in the neighborhood for 60 years. He believes the victim did what they had to do.

“If you trying to harm me or hurt me I’m going to defend myself,” he said.

He’s lived in this neighborhood for 60 years and said he had his own harrowing experience at the same gas station years ago.

“I got shot right here and that’s been about 15, 20 years ago right here. The person who shot me wasn’t even shooting at me. He was shooting at somebody across the street,” he said.

One wounding (stabbing) victim was taken to the hospital in non-critical condition.

Police have not identified anyone involved in this case or said if the shooter will be facing charges.
