MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police say a man was shot while waiting for an Uber in downtown Memphis Friday evening, and now the suspects are on the run.
Police responded to a shooting on Union Avenue near South Second Street around 6:30 p.m. Friday. According to police, a man was waiting for an Uber when several people physically attacked him.
Police say that after the suspects assaulted the victim, one of them pulled out a gun and shot him. He went to Regional One Hospital in critical condition.
Memphis Police released surveillance video of the possible suspects Saturday evening. In the background, you can see people running for their lives while the suspects attempt to hide.
Police say only one of the suspects was armed with a gun and no arrests have been made at this time.
Memphis tourist Victoria Hermansen says she’s been visiting Memphis for 15 years to enjoy the sites, food, and music.
“I love Memphis. The people in Memphis are beautiful. The music is amazing,” she said.
However, she says she’s going to be more on guard for her next visit after learning a man was shot near her hotel Friday evening.
“Young people are committing crimes, violent crimes with guns. I just can’t believe it. It’s devastating,” said Hermansen. “I’ve traveled all over the United States, and to see these up-and-coming crimes, especially violent crimes with weapons, the state of our country is mortifying.”
