MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man was found dead in South Memphis Sunday morning, according to MPD.

The incident happened on the 200 block of Bond Avenue. Detectives at the scene told WREG they were called to the apartment complex around 5:00 a.m.

When officers arrived, they found one man dead from multiple stab wounds. MPD later said James Sherman, 52, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder.

Sherman first told police he woke up and found the victim unresponsive on the couch. He later admitted to officers that he stabbed the victim after they got into an argument.

Burnell Harris said hearing and seeing violence erupt around him is not unusual, but unsettling to know an attack happened close to his front door.

“I see it on the outskirts, but down in the hole, naw,” Harris said. “When I look up there, I see the crime tape and I see, like it’s just been something going on. It’s my first time hearing what’s happening down there.”

While police are working this case, Harris said the community has a part to play as well.

“Well it starts at home, and if we can control our homes, we can control the streets,” Harris said. “And we can stop looking to everybody else to help us and help ourselves.”
