MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man wanted for a deadly shooting at an apartment complex in East Memphis last year was captured Thursday night, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

The deadly attack happened in November the day after Thanksgiving inside the Willow Apartments off Getwell Road in East Memphis.

When police arrived, they found the victim, Brandon Houston, with a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition and later died.

Police say two weeks ago, an eyewitness came forward regarding the November attack after the victim’s family tracked him down. He was able to give detectives the nickname ‘D-Lo’ as the person he says shot and killed the 42-year-old victim.

D-Lo, according to police, is Deangelo Valentine, who has since been charged with first-degree murder.

U.S. Marshals along with the MPD and Shelby County Sheriff’s Office fugitive teams went to a house on Hillbrook Road in South Memphis Thursday night to search for Valentine.

The U.S. Marshals said when investigators surrounded the home, Valentine tried to flee out of the rear of the house but ran back inside. That’s when law enforcement forced their way inside.

Investigators gave warnings at the door and called for Valentine to come out. He surrendered without incident.

Valentine is set to appear in court on February 20.

There have been five murders and/or homicides within a half-mile radius of the complex over the past year. According to property records, the complex is in foreclosure.
