UPDATE: Memphis Police have released images of the suspect they believe to be responsible for this shooting.

They describe the suspect as a man in all-black clothing and black shoes.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police and MATA say a passenger was shot after an argument on a MATA bus Saturday evening.

The shooting happened on Frayser-Raleigh Road and Calvary Creek. Memphis Police responded to the scene at around 7:27 p.m.

According to MPD, the incident began as an argument between two passengers on the bus. The suspect was reportedly put off the bus after the argument.

Police say that after getting off the bus, the suspect fired a shot into the bus. MPD says the victim was grazed and taken to Regional One Hospital in non-critical condition.

The suspect reportedly fled the scene on foot. Police say no other injuries were reported.

MATA released a statement after the shooting.

The Memphis Area Transit Authority has been made aware of a shooting of a passenger on a MATA bus. We are deeply saddened by the unfortunate incident, and we remain committed to the safety of our riders and operators. We are cooperating with authorities during this investigation and ask that all inquiries be directed to the Memphis Police Department.
