MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Mayor Paul Young is hosting a question and answer on Reddit Monday afternoon to openly engage with the community on the public platform.

Reddit is a popular social platform for thousands of communities around the world to post, vote, and comment in forums based on their preferred interest.

“I think a leader on Reddit answering people directly is a really good thing,” Jalisha Boyd said.

In Mayor Young’s post on Reddit, he says in 2024 we surpassed his target goal of reducing crime by 10% annually with a 13.3% reduction in overall crime and a 19% reduction in violent crime. He says efforts like Operations Code Zero, Fugitive Taskforce, and Blight Zero have led to numerous arrests, confiscation of illegal weapons, cleaner neighborhoods, and revitalized communities.

In a moment of transparency, he also notes that challenges remain. He says, “The recent findings from the federal investigation into the Memphis Police Department highlighted areas requiring attention. While I acknowledge these challenges, I believe that our community is best suited to develop and implement effective changes collaboratively, without the need for a federal consent decree.”

Mayor Young says while reflecting on his journey with Memphis as mayor, he wants to share his progress and discuss the path ahead, focusing on community-driven solutions to restore trust and ensure justice, which is why he is holding the open forum.

“I’m here to answer your questions about our progress, upcoming initiatives, or any concerns you may have. Let’s continue working together to make Memphis a city we all are proud to call home,” Mayor Young said.

To participate, you must have an email address to ask questions. Users can ask Mayor Young whatever they would like and he will start answering them at 3 p.m.
