MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man is in custody after a standoff in the parking lot of the Walmart in Holly Springs, Mississippi.

According to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, the incident started on Friday evening when a trooper pulled over a suspect on Highway 4. The suspect was later identified as Daniel Adams of Kiln, Mississippi.

The sheriff’s department says the trooper was trying to conduct a welfare check on Adams when he noticed a gun in the vehicle. Adams reportedly fled the scene and pulled into the parking lot of Walmart.

The sheriff’s department says Adams was “boxed in” by law enforcement. That was when he allegedly pointed the gun at his head and threatened to shoot himself.

The sheriff’s department says negotiators made the scene and managed to get Adams to get out of his vehicle.

Adams was reportedly taken into custody without incident. The sheriff’s department says he is currently held at the Marshall County Jail.
