MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man was killed after a delivery truck collided with his motor scooter at South Cox and Nelson in Cooper-Young around noon Wednesday.

The man was pinned under the truck for several minutes before he was freed by first responders and taken to a hospital in critical condition.

However, police reported at 8 p.m. that the man did not survive his injuries.

He was identified by police as Walter Collins, 50.

Witness Bill Branch said the motor scooter was driving north on Cox. The delivery truck, traveling east, did not have a stop sign. The driver stayed on the scene.

A nurse who lives nearby stayed with the man until first responders arrived.
