MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police are looking for person of interest after they say two people led an officer on a chase from Walls, Mississippi into Memphis and fired shots at them.
What should have been a routine traffic stop for a Walls Mississippi police officer turned into much more at the intersection of Highway 61 and Nail Road.
On Jan. 9, a Walls Police officer observed a gray Toyota traveling north on Highway 61 and attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver failed to comply.

The pursuit made its way up Highway 61 into Memphis before crashing through an iron fence on Holmes Road and ending in a field.
The two suspects 24-year-old Dorise Ayers and 24-year-old Erica Benson, were taken into custody. Police also found a handgun, marijuana and fentanyl inside the Toyota.
“They were both detained but they were transported to the Med due to their injuries. The Memphis Police Department said they were going to do affidavits in the subjects,” said Walls Police Chief Danny Bridges.
We were unable to find affidavits on either Ayers or Benson. Now Memphis Police are looking for Benson, calling her a person of interest.
Chief Bridges said his investigators would like to talk to Benson as well and said he doesn’t know if Benson is just considered a witness or something more serious.
“She’s always been at least a witness or co defendant at that point. We never got a chance to talk to her that night because she went to the hospital,” he said. “If she was involved we just want to make sure she’s held accountable for her actions on that night.”
Ayers was charged with possession of drugs and felon in possession of a weapon.
