MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police say a child was injured after being struck by “a bullet that fell from the sky” in South Memphis Wednesday.
Memphis Police responded to the injury in the 1500 block of Michigan Street at 6:45 p.m.
The child’s father told Memphis Police that his son was picking up trash in the front yard, when something fell from a tree, causing his head to hurt.
After further inspection, they determined it was a bullet, after it fell out of his hoodie, leaving neighbors stunned by the discovery.
The bullet did not penetrate the child’s head but they were taken to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in non-critical condition.
The source of the shooting is unknown.
Meanwhile, this community is left processing how this could have ended in a much more tragic way. “Bullets don’t have no name so when you shoot, you don’t know who you done shot,” one of the neighbors said. “Just to know that it could have been a child that got hurt, killed, or something else.”
No arrests have been made at this time.
The boy is expected to be okay and anyone with additional information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 901-528-CASH.
