17-year-old accused of killing food market clerk in Soulsville

UPDATE: Memphis Police have announced that a 17-year-old has been charged with first-degree murder in connection to this incident.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man was killed in a shooting at a Soulsville food market on Sunday night, according to the Memphis Police Department.


The MPD responded to the shooting call around 9:12 p.m. at 1026 Mississippi Boulevard, Sam’s Food Market. Police say a man with several gunshot wounds was taken to Regional One in Critical condition, where he died from his injuries.

Video surveillance captured the suspect leaving the business with merchandise he had not paid for. Police say the victim tried to stop him, and while struggling with the items, the suspect fired several shots, hitting the victim and killing him.

A source told WREG the victim was a clerk inside the store.

The suspect fled the scene going west on Walker Avenue and north on Ford Place. He was wearing a black hoodie and blue jeans.
