MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police are searching for the people responsible for assaulting and carjacking a 19-year-old student at the University of Memphis.

It happened Sunday night in a parking lot across the street from the Living Learning Complex, a freshman residence hall on Patterson.

The female student, who did not want to be identified, told WREG she was getting out of her car when she was ambushed by four men between the ages of 18 and 25, who put a gun to her head and demanded her car keys and other personal belongings.

“I guess I was going too slow because they hit me on the back of the head,” said the victim. “They made me get on my knees, and they told me if you scream, we’ll shoot; if you run, we’ll shoot.”

The suspects then took off in the victim’s 2010 Toyota Camry.

Thursday afternoon, Memphis Police released a picture of three men who are possibly involved with the carjacking.

The suspects were captured on cameras outside a nearby fraternity house at day after the carjacking.

The fraternity brothers said the suspects were seen in the area trying to break into cars, and police were in the area looking for them.

“They were running around pulling on handles hoping someone left their car unlocked. I don’t know if they touched any door handles here or not, but I know they probably planned on it,” said Sam Stalnaker.

Police found the stolen Camry in the 1400 block of Patton in South Memphis on Monday. Officers said they saw several young males get out of the car and found a gun near the vehicle.

So far, no arrests have been made.
