MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis River Parks Partnership asked county leaders Wednesday for $1 million to complete a new observation deck in Tom Lee Park.

Construction on the Flyway Observation Deck is already underway, with completion expected in early 2026.

MRPP has secured $9.8 million in funding from federal, state and other sources but the group says they need $1 million more to cover the costs of the project.

“Not only is this place going to be iconic, but it’s the only place where you can get on the Mississippi in a real way and to put this in context,” Tyree Daniels with MRPP told county commissioners. “You’ll be almost out above the water, which is a different experience than being on the Harahan Bridge.”

Daniels was asked what MRPP would do if the county turned down their funding request. He said they would then try to raise the money through fundraisers or other sources.

MRPP also announced Wednesday that Tom Lee Park has recorded its one millionth visitor since reopening after a $61 million renovation last year.
