MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man was found dead in North Memphis overnight Tuesday.

Police located a man shot inside a vehicle at Hollywood shortly after midnight Tuesday.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A witness said he was on his way home around midnight when he noticed this black vehicle sitting in the middle of North Hollywood near Vollintine.

“I didn’t see anyone in the car but I saw the lights on but I thought it was a wreck,” he said.

Nearly a dozen evidence markers could be seen surrounding the car.

The witness said just before police arrived, he saw two men walking away from the scene — heading toward Jackson Avenue. He says he initially believed the men were involved in what he thought at the time was a crash. So, he let it go, but now he thinks differently.

“A lady stopped to ask them did they know what happened back there, and they were like no, but I kind of sensed they did,” the man said.

People living in the area say criminal activity is very common in this area. According to the city’s crime tracker, there have been multiple reported incidents regarding theft, drugs, weapons, and intimidation in the area this year.
