MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A mother and daughter were shot at as thieves stole a car from their home in Westwood Tuesday morning, Memphis Police said.

According to Memphis Police, at around 2 a.m., a mother and daughter heard a loud noise in their driveway. They both stepped outside and saw two men breaking into the daughter’s 2016 Kia Soul.

Both victims told the suspects to stop, but they refused, police say. One of the suspects got into the car’s driver seat, and the other fired three shots at the victims.

MPD says the daughter was not shot. The mother suffered injuries to her face but did not have a gunshot wound. She was taken to Methodist South in non-critical condition.

The suspects left the scene in the Kia Soul and headed southbound on Weaver Road.

A neighbor says it was shocking to hear, considering the area is “quiet” and “peaceful.” She added, “I am comfortable coming home. I am not afraid to come home. I am not afraid to go outdoors.”

Police checked the area but did not find any shell casings. If you know anything that could help police, you are urged to call CrimeStoppers at 901-528-2274.
