MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A burglary ended in a crash overnight causing a portion of South Perkins to be shut down Friday morning.
The crash happened just off the westbound Perkins exit on I-240 around 4 a.m.
Police said they observed five suspects coming out of the back of a tractor-trailer at the Family Dollar store on the 3000 block of South Mendenhall Road.
MPD said the suspects fled in two separate vehicles, a white Volkswagen Golf, and an unknown model black SUV.
Police tried to stop the Volkswagen on Perkins, but the car refused to stop. MPD said as officers were disengaging, the car ran a red light at Perkins and I-240 and hit a passing vehicle.
Police said that they were also to determine that the Volkswagen Golf had been stolen.
MPD said three suspects, ages 19, 24, and 27, who were inside the Volkswagon were taken into custody and treated for non-critical injuries following the crash.
Charges are pending for all suspects.
The overpass has been cleared and traffic is returning to normal.
Police did not release any information regarding the other two suspects that fled in the black SUV.
This is a developing story. WREG will provide more updates once they become available.
