3 shot near Ubee’s on Highland Strip

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Three people were shot in the University area on Thursday night, MPD says.

The shooting happened around midnight in front of Ubee’s restaurant and bar on the Highland Strip, which is a popular spot for college kids to hang out on South Highland.

One man was taken to Regional One Hospital in critical condition while the others were treated in the parking lot.

People who appear to be customers of the business stood outside watching the investigation unfold.

Police said the suspect got away in a dark colored sedan.

Since January 1, the city crime tracker reports police have responded to 122 calls in the area.

That includes thefts, assaults, and burglaries. At least 41 of those calls have been to the Highland Strip which consists of various shopping and dining venues.

It’s a popular spot for University of Memphis students because it is so close to campus.

According to Ubee’s website, Thursday nights are considered “College Night” with beer bust and animal hour. Their Facebook page says the restaurant is open until midnight.

The cause for the shooting is still unclear, and no arrests have been made at this time.

We tried to reach out to Ubee’s Owner, and he briefly said no employees were injured.

WREG will update as more information becomes available.
