MEMPHIS, Tenn.– A woman was hurt when a tree fell on a home in North Memphis Wednesday night.
Wind gusts of 40 mph caused several trees to topple in Memphis during the day.
One tree was uprooted at a house in the 1000 block of North Parkway just after 9 p.m. The homeowner said the tree hit their vehicle and a neighbor’s house.
According to the homeowner, the neighbor whose home was struck is disabled and needed to be rescued and was taken to the hospital. There is currently no update on her condition.

“The way it went through that house, I mean that was nothing,” said Dennis Anderson, Owner of Anderson Tree Service.
Anderson says all it takes are winds more than 30 miles per hour.
“The weight of this tree would almost be like five or six cars up over your house. Those trees are so heavy,” Anderson said. “2,000 pounds is a lot of weight but you may have over 10,000 pounds up over your house and you don’t even know it.”
He says before the cleanup can begin there may be an insurance battle.
“If you don’t send your neighbor a certified letter before their tree falls on your house, it’s up to you to get it off,” Anderson said.
It comes down to a piece of paper to determine who is responsible for paying for the damages. To avoid this happening to you, send your neighbors a certified letter if they have a tree near your home. If you are the tree owner, he says it’s best to trim the tree and its branches as soon as possible.
“People say it costs a lot but it costs even more when it does damage to your house or a neighbor’s house,” Anderson said.
