MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man allegedly tried to run over Memphis Police, and he hit their squad car, resulting in shots fired in the East Buntyn area Thursday morning.

MPD says at 4:25 a.m., they responded to a prowler call in the 3200 block of Southern Avenue near Greer. Police encountered the suspect, and he tried to run them over as he fled.

According to reports, the suspect then hit a squad car, and officers fired shots.

Preliminary information indicated the suspect was not hit, police say. An officer suffered a minor injury from falling.

Investigators say he got away in a black Infiniti SUV with rear bumper damage.

Memphis Police say the suspect is not in custody, and this remains an ongoing investigation.

The Memphis Fire Department says they responded to the area for an auto accident. They left without taking anyone to the hospital.
