MEMPHIS, Tenn. — One person is recovering after a shootout on the interstate. Memphis Police said two men were arrested after a bizarre incident along I-240 and Norris Road around 2:30 Monday morning.
According to the report, the first set of victims told officers they made a last-minute decision to exit at Norris Road. That’s when they believe people in the other vehicle thought they were “trying to buck them” and then pulled up beside their car and fired shots.
As a result of the shooting, police said one of the victims told officers it caused him to crash into a fenced-in utility pole.
One person was taken to the hospital, but he’s expected to be ok.
Police said Louradis Lester recalled a different story.
He told detectives he was driving on the expressway near the Jackson exit with a man he’d picked up from work when someone started firing shots at his car.
According to the report, Lester who was not injured, returned fire and drove home to Mississippi before calling police.
Milik Fullilove has been charged with aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a weapon.
Both men arrested have been charged with aggravated assault.
Police said one of the men was armed with a handgun stolen from Horn Lake.
Residents living in the area said violence from the interstate often creeps into quiet South Memphis neighborhoods.
