MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A school bus was involved in an accident on I-240 near Walnut Grove Wednesday afternoon.
According to TDOT, the multi-vehicle crash was reported at mile marker 12.8 at 2:24 p.m. Memphis Police said no injuries were reported.
Memphis-Shelby County Schools said there were two adults and one child on the bus during the accident.
“Our preliminary reports are that there was one child and two adults on the First Student bus, and no one on the bus sustained serious injuries. We are working with emergency responders on the scene who are evaluating the two adults and one child out of an abundance of caution,” the school district said.
Sam Jobe was driving a blue Nissan when he said a car was stopped in the middle of the road and other drivers were going too fast to avoid it.
“The jeep was going interstate speed and he didn’t realize because the armored car was in front of him, and by the time the armored car swerved out of the way, it was too late for him to do anything,” Jobe said.
Jobe said it was a red car that caused this entire accident to happen.
“The jeep went up on the side, and I went up under the jeep and pushed him into another car. Just happened too fast, nothing you could do about it,” he said.
Jobe told five people, including his wife, were taken to the hospital as a precaution.
MPD is still investigating exactly what happened and why a car was stopped in the middle of the interstate.
