MEMPHIS, Tenn. — It’s a new day, but apparently the same old problems at Serenity at Highland senior high rise.

Many seniors say they’re still going days without electricity and now they being forced to use the stairs because the elevator still isn’t working. They reached out to WREG for help.

“This is the most mismanaged place that you’re going to run into,” said Mark Tilly, one of the many tenants living at Serenity, a senior high-rise that’s been plagued with problems in recent years.

“We are all old and we’re all disabled, but we’ve paid our dues and served our country,” Tilly said. “The thing is, without the media getting anybody to listen, we don’t have the voice because they got the power.”

He says this week they’ve gone several days without power, forcing him and other seniors to use the stairs because the elevator isn’t working.

“They told us they don’t have anybody to come and go fix them. That means we’re going to go another weekend with people stuck on the eighth, ninth floor, tenth floor,” Tilly said.

Back in September, representatives for Serenity were back in court after a power surge left all of the elevators out of service for days.

The environmental court judge let those with Millennia Housing, the company that runs Serenity, know they will be held accountable.

“I think we’re just about at that point that we need a permanent solution,” Judge Patrick Dandridge said at the time.

Fast forward to now — there are still problems and tenants are still frustrated.

“This damn **** has got to stop somewhere,” Tilly said. “I haven’t had air conditioning since May of last year. There’s no air conditioning. There’s no heat. … It’s really a shame.”

For now, Tilly and others once again wait on a cloudy day for answers and repairs to be made at Serenity Towers.

WREG reached out to Serenity for a comment but were told to leave their premises. We’ll keep you posted when we hear back.
