MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Three family members were left injured after police said they were shot at an apartment complex in Frayser on Tuesday night.
A little after 8 p.m., officers say the two women and a man showed up at Baptist East Hospital suffering from gunshot wounds. That is when the hospital staff called the police.
After further investigation, police say it was determined that the shooting took place at the Greenbriar apartments on 3150 Madewell Street.
A man told police that he was inside his apartment when he heard people arguing, followed by gunshots. He says he then went outside and saw the mother of his child and her two cousins on he ground suffering from gunshot wounds.
The man says he loaded all three of the victims into his car and took them to Baptist East Hospital in non-critical condition.
While at the hospital, the shooting victims told police it started when they heard people arguing and fighting before they heard gunshots. That is when each of them says they got shot.
One of the victims was shot in her upper left thigh and right knee. Her brother was shot in his left hand. Their cousin says she felt her leg go numb and realized she was shot in her left thigh.
Memphis Police said that while they were investigating the crime scene at the apartment complex, they saw blood on the stairs and in front of the apartment.
However, they say the blood in front of the apartment looked like it was cleaned up with soapy water. There were also no shell casings found at the scene, and neighbors say they did not hear anything.
Police say DCS was also contacted.
“Man, these apartments are crazy – almost every day they are shooting,” said Braylon Bradley, from Frayser. “I ain’t snitching on nobody or nothing, but it’s going down over here. I don’t really want nobody to know I live over here – that’s how crazy it is.”
The city’s data hub shows police have responded within a half-mile radius of the recent attack 75 times since the beginning of the year, concerning assaults, homicides, robberies, and weapon violations.
“Man, don’t come over here,” Bradley said. “If you don’t stay, don’t come over here, mane.”
It is still unclear who pulled the trigger, but this is still an ongoing investigation.
WREG reached out to the leasing office, but they did not want to comment on the incident.
