MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police responded to a shooting on Lamar Avenue Monday morning, causing them to shut part of the street down.
According to Memphis Police, around 4:00 a.m., one person was taken to Regional One Hospital as a result of the shooting.
Parts of Lamar Avenue between Barron Avenue and Callis Street were blocked off for hours due to a white Chevrolet Malibu that crashed into a fence at Super Cars Auto Sale, reports say. The impact was so hard, that the Malibu hit another car that was parked in the parking lot.
Once our crews arrived on the scene, we found an assault rifle laying in the middle of Lamar Avenue, along with dozens of evidence markers.
“People shooting assault rifles in the neighborhood, and it’s we are not in Iraq, we are not at war,” Brian Williams, a man who lives nearby said. “One of those bullets could hit anyone that is innocent. And it is just sad to see these types of things are happening in our community where we live.”
The owner of Super Cars Auto Sale did not recognize the damage in the fence until our crew pointed it out to him. The vehicle was gone when he arrived and he said he was not contacted by police.
Williams says there is just too much violence in the city. “Thinking like what happened this time, it’s always so much, we are not even looking out for our community anymore; it is just so much violence going on,” Williams said.
