MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man is left critically injured after a shooting in Southeast Memphis on Wednesday afternoon.

According to Memphis Police, officers responded to the shooting around 2 p.m. in a parking lot at 5425 Raines Road.

A man was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was then taken to Regional One Hospital in critical condition.

Business owners are coping with a traumatic afternoon after they say they helped the man after he was shot.

“I was in the office working and we heard gunshots from the outside,” said William Meador, an employee nearby.

Meador says he and his boss ran outside their shop located in a strip mall on East Raines Road and saw a man yelling for help.

“He was shot in the hip and on the arm,” said Meador.

Meador said the victim told him he was shot by the suspect at the intersection of East Raines and Mendenhall and the suspect drove off in the victim’s car.

The victim, Meador estimates is about 20 years old.

“We got him a bottle of water, sat him down, applied pressure to his wounds, and just waited for the ambulance,” said Meador.

Meador says he has never seen this kind of violence first hand until today, but he felt it was only a matter of time until he did.

“When it first happens you get the shakes, and then after a few minutes you think, it’s just another day in Memphis. It’s just a Wednesday afternoon,” he said.

Police blocked off all traffic lanes at East Raines Road and South Mendenhall Road due to the investigation.

Memphis Police have not given any more information at this point.

MPD says no suspect information is available at this time. But this is still an ongoing investigation.
