MEMPHIS, Tenn. — One person is dead after a shooting between people in two vehicles outside the Cook Out restaurant on Union Avenue Friday.

Police said they heard shots fired at 1:21 a.m. Two vehicles fled the scene, police said. They followed one, a black Infiniti, that drove to Methodist hospital. That vehicle had one passenger who’d been shot.

A few blocks away on I-240, police had the ramps to I-40 blocked off and were surrounding a car. Police said the two scenes were related, and they were responding to a shooting call involving another Infiniti.

The victim went to the hospital in critical condition. Friday night, Memphis Police say that person died from his injuries. Police say the victim was 18 years old.

One person with active warrants was detained. Police have not released that person’s name.

Police said people in the two vehicles appeared to be shooting at each other, according to a preliminary investigation.

A manager at the Cook Out said the shooting stemmed from an argument between two customers in the parking lot. He said all the employees are OK. He didn’t know what led to the argument.
