Warehouse shooting in Southwest Memphis leaves one injured

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — One person was shot overnight outside a FedEx distribution center in Southeast Memphis.

The shooting happened just before 11 p.m. Wednesday at the facility at 3955 Holmes Road near Getwell.

The 24-year-old male victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Reports say the victim was shot in the stomach.

Employees who didn’t want to go on camera say the building was temporarily placed on lockdown and they were encouraged to stay in the building.

Police say the suspect in this shooting is known by the victim. People WREG spoke to who work in the area say that the victim and the suspect are coworkers and that there was some sort of altercation prior to the shooting.

According to police reports, a witness heard the gunman tell the victim to not follow him outside or he would shoot him. The witness says the victim proceeded to follow the gunman to the parking lot where things continued to escalate.

MPD says the suspect pulled out a gun, shot the victim, and drove off.

At this time, it’s unclear what the two were arguing about. However, a second witness reportedly told officers she heard the victim tell the suspect to quote ”not ever touch him in the back like that again”.

FedEx made this statement following the shooting:

The safety of our team members is our top priority. We are fully cooperating with law enforcement in their investigation.
