OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. — The Olive Branch Police Department responded to the Kroger on Goodman Road after reports of shots fired in the parking lot Sunday.

According to reports, at 1:37 p.m., officers responded to 7427 Goodman Road, the Olive Branch Kroger parking lot, regarding gunfire.

Police say a man and a juvenile were involved in an altercation, and a relative of the juvenile arrived on the scene and tried to break it up.

Reports say the relative of the juvenile fired a gun during the altercation, but no one was injured.

The incident started over a parking spot, according to a witness on the scene.

Shoppers say they are surprised that an incident of this nature happened in the area.

“Obviously we live in a pretty calm, small suburb, so it’s kind of surprising to see it happen and not know about it,” said Phillip Brooks.

This type of altercation was also frightening to a local customer who says not only does he shop at Kroger but many other places in the shopping center off Goodman Road, as well.

“Actually, I do a lot of shopping here,” Vincent Bass said. “Not only is my cleaners here, my phone vendor is here as well. McDonald’s there for breakfast.”

An Instacart shopper says people had to walk around the crime scene tape as police conducted their investigation.

People were detained after police arrived and the scene was quickly secured. It is unclear if anyone is being charged.

“It’s terrifying because if I had known, I wouldn’t have come here today,” said Brooks.
