Driver being shot at crashes into Memphis animal shelter gate

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police are searching for multiple suspects after a man was shot at, chased, and crashed into the gates at Memphis Animal Services.

The victim contacted MPD after unknown suspects inside a silver Altima started shooting at his car and following him. Police attached these videos to their Facebook post.

A man told police he had just pulled up to the entrance late Monday night to pick up his girlfriend who works there when he heard gunfire and his car was sideswiped by a driver in a black vehicle trying to get away from a silver Altima.

Suspects vehicle

The man being chased jumped out of his car but got stuck trying to climb over a fence in the rear of the building. In the surveillance video, you can see one suspect get out of Altima and drive off in the victim’s car.

Police found 9 shell casings on the MAS property and say at least one vehicle in the lot was hit by a bullet.

MAS isn’t commenting about what happened, but customers at the animal shelter like Nikki Palmer Wednesday were shocked by the video and concerned about the driver who was hit.

“I bet he was scared. I know I would have been scared,” Palmer said.

Damaged MAS gate

The victim told police the shooting started at Summer and Raleigh LaGrange and may have been over a girl.

However, police say they found his car, a 2014 black Honda Civic about two miles from MAS and discovered it had been taken during an armed robbery earlier in the day.

No arrests have been made so far in this case, and Memphis Police are actively investigating.
