1 dead, 1 injured after shooting in Southwest Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man is dead and another is injured after a shooting in a Southwest Memphis neighborhood early Wednesday morning, Memphis Police confirm.

Officers say they were called to the area of Montee Road and East Geeter Road regarding the shooting a little after 3 a.m. Two men were found suffering from injuries on the scene.

One man was pronounced dead, and the other was taken to Regional One Hospital in non-critical condition.

“They are towing a white car, and nine times out of ten, someone likely got killed because that’s what happens most times over here,” said David, a South Memphis resident. “It seems like it’s a never-ending story. You know, but in some kind of way, some help can be done.”

Two additional men were detained at the scene, police say.

Another shooting was also reported shortly after this one in the Grahamwood area.

“I had my TV on and they said Maria Street and I said ‘What, Maria?’ and I jumped up there and came around here,” a Grahamwood resident said.

Police say a man was found lying on a neighbor’s front porch with a gunshot wound in the stomach. He was wearing gloves with a facemask lying close by, the detective said.

He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
