MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A murder suspect’s bond was set to $1 million Tuesday days after a deadly shooting in northeast Memphis.

Dartagnan Lee is accused of killing two people and leaving two others hurt after a shooting at the Stella Apartments on Jan. 29.

One victim’s mother left the courtroom, after shouting profanity at Lee, who she accused of killing her son. “That’s my son … that you killed,” she said. (Video below)

Emotions were high for the victims’ families and Lee’s girlfriend in Judge Christian Johnson’s courtroom Tuesday, as parties debated what would be a reasonable bond for Lee.

Lee’s attorney Brandon Hall wanted his bond to be $125,000.

“In this case, Mr. Lee has no record. He has no convictions for misdemeanors or felonies,” Hall said.

However, the division leader, Carla Taylor, was not buying it. She says Lee is a complete danger to the community and his bond should be $3 million.

“If he can let out 31 rounds and kill two people, attempted to kill two others who are still in the hospital. The risk of nonappearance is a great risk when you are facing two counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder,” Taylor said.

Judge Johnson set the bond to $1 million.

“I can look at this case as it goes into the probability of conviction and a likely sentence. As Ms. Taylor pointed out, it would be several life sentences at this point,” said Judge Johnson.

However, the family members of the deceased, Noah and DeVondre Collins, believe Lee shouldn’t have gotten a bond at all.

DeVondre’s mother, Sherise Bird, and Noah’s mother, Adrienne Locklear, wanted to set the record straight. They said it was no party that Lee allegedly shot up — it was their routine family Sunday dinner.

“They were there for dinner at my son’s house. His girlfriend cooked Sunday dinner, invited her cousin over and she brought him with her,” Locklear said. “There was no argument, no altercation. Her mom was there, and my two-year-old grandson was there, her younger sister and brother were there in the house.”

”My baby just came over to his older brother’s house to get a haircut. And when he started shooting, my baby ran out. He chased after my baby and shot him in the head,” Bird said.

However, Lee’s attorney said it did not happen that way. He claims Lee is not a monster, he is a guy who is shy and nervous. He also says Lee needs solitary confinement.

“One hundred percent you do not have the full story,” Hall said. “He is sitting in jail with a lot of people who are connected to the victim’s family and that’s why you saw that order for protective custody.”

Lee is scheduled to be back in court on February 28.
