UPDATE: According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Jarvis Thomas, 18, was arrested shortly after the crash. He is charged is theft of property $10,000-$60,000, Leaving the scene of an accident and causing bodily injury, evading arrest, providing false identification, reckless driving, and failing to yield right of way.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Shelby County Sheriff’s Office deputy was struck by a man driving a stolen vehicle in Hickory Hill Thursday afternoon.

According to the sheriff’s office, just before 4 p.m. Thursday, a man driving a stolen Nissan Maxima pulled out in front of a deputy on Crump Road and Runningbrook Circle.

The two vehicles collided, and the suspect reportedly ran from the scene. The sheriff’s office says deputies caught the suspect a few minutes later in a nearby neighborhood.

The deputy went to the hospital in non-critical condition. The sheriff’s office says the suspect was detained and the Memphis Fire evaluated him for minor injuries.
