MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A teenager has been accused of stealing a delivery driver’s car after shooting at him.
Tyshaun Wear, 18, is charged with attempted murder, employment of a firearm with intent to commit a felony, and aggravated robbery after officers responded to a robbery in North Memphis last month.
A Doordash driver told police he was walking to his Chevrolet Impala while making a delivery in the 2500 block of Peres Avenue when he noticed someone opening his front door. As he moved closer, the suspect, according to Memphis police, fired shots at the victim.
Police say the driver returned shots but the 18-year-old suspect managed to get inside the driver’s Impala and drive away.
A man who lives near the crime scene says he’s not surprised by Wear’s age. In fact, he says he’s been harassed by a few of the neighborhood kids.
“I don’t even walk that way anymore. It doesn’t make any sense to walk that way when my life is being threatened and my livelihood is being threatened,” the man said.
A Community center, library, and Memphis Police Substation are clustered together on North Hollywood in North Memphis in hopes of encouraging positivity in the community.
However, residents say it’s still not enough to deter criminal activity.
“It’s like they leave the precinct and go out around the other places instead of patrolling right next door to them. And that’s where most of the crime is right next door to them,” the man said.
Police say the stolen Impala was equipped with a tracker.
On Monday, the Impala was located at a Dollar General on James Road. Detectives found Wear inside the store and took him into custody.
Wear’s bond has been set at $200,000. He is set to appear in court Tuesday.
