MEMPHIS, Tenn. — One person is facing possible criminal charges after shots rang out at a Hickory Hill nightclub overnight that left one man dead.

Memphis Police said three people were shot inside the club right after midnight.

One of the victims was found dead on the scene.

Witness Lisa Moore said she spoke to the deceased victim just moments before the shooting.

“He walked up and spoke as he usually does. He’s a real cool guy. A real nice guy. Owns a couple of businesses. Doing good for himself. Don’t cause any problems.” Moore said.

She said he had only been there for about 30 minutes when the shots rang out.

“We thought it was somebody dropping something. Like, it didn’t even sound like gunshots.” Moore said.

MPD said there was an argument that led to one of the victims shooting two other people, killing one of them. Police say the gunman then accidentally shot themself.

The surviving victim and the gunman were taken to the hospital in critical condition. The gunman was later detained.

The shopping complex has had its share of crime over the years.

Over the summer, police responded to a shooting in the parking lot that stemmed from a car crash.

Last year, a reported shooting took place at Lavish Bar and Grill, which is only a few doors down from the lounge.

“We don’t have that type of crowd here. It’s a cool laid back lounge, smoke hookahs. Like, it’s really cool and laid back.” Moore said.

No formal charges have been filed so far.

Details are still coming in after the shooting, and WREG will update this page as more information becomes available.
