MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A 2-year-old child is dead after he was hit by a car in Parkway Village on Tuesday night, according to the Memphis Police Department.
The MPD responded to the incident at Cottonwood Road near Goodlett Street at 10 p.m. They say a 2-year-old boy was hit by a car and taken to the hospital, where he later died.
A family member identified the child as Alex Washington.

“He was real spunky, real happy, just really, really happy. Just a baby; that’s your sunshine when you look at him,” said aunt Charisma Swindle.
“The family was outside in the yard, and he was with his mom getting her car fixed and they were outside watching the guy fix the car, and we looked around and I don’t really know exactly,” said Swindle.
“Just a little bitty baby, so when we came outside, we didn’t know what it was because it was so dark out here,” said one neighbor. “We didn’t really know what was what was going on.”
Neighbors told WREG this flashing light is not enough, and many mailboxes in the area are lined with reflective tape.
“They really gotta tone down all the speeding and stuff and be careful,” said one neighbor.” “They need speed bumps out here, too. Kids be playing out here.”
This is an ongoing investigation.
