MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Two men are facing charges after they were reportedly caught with guns at a school in South Memphis.
Alvino Johnson, 19, and Marco McGhee, 20, are currently booked in the Shelby County Jail.
According to a report from Memphis Police, officers responded to a suspicious person call at George Washington Carver Academy on Pennsylvania Street at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
An officer reportedly spotted two men standing in the school’s parking lot. Police say one of the suspects, who has been identified as McGhee, was wearing a ski mask on top of his head. Memphis Police say Johnson had a black hoodie draped over his shoulders.
According to police, the officer tried to frisk both of them, but Johnson tried to run away. Police say the officer “brought Johnson to the ground” and detained both suspects.
The officer reportedly found guns on Johnson and McGhee. Police say the weapon Johnson was carrying had been reported stolen.
Johnson has been charged with carrying a weapon on school property, evading arrest, theft of a firearm worth less than $2,500, and unlawful possession of a weapon.
McGhee has been charged with carrying a weapon with intent on school property and unlawful possession of a weapon.
