MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Firefighters are investigating an apartment fire than began Saturday morning in Raleigh.
The apartment fire began at Jamesbridge apartments on the 3800 block of North Advantage Way Drive around 10:45 a.m. and was brought under control around 11:30 a.m.
MFD said around 50 to 60 residents were displaced. Firefighters said the cause of the fire was arson, and the suspect has since been detained.
Chris Joy saw his life flash before his eyes.
“That could have been my apartment,” he said. “We literally, what’s that about ten feet, that’s about ten feet that could have jumped and spread.”
While Joy’s apartment was spared, his neighbors not so much. The building adjacent to his caught on fire. One displaced resident, Ashley Jones, said she was glad that she and her son were not injured.
“Nothing really just got destroyed, so I am very thankful for that because I can’t replace my life or my son’s life,” Jones said.

Joy also said he feels for his neighbors and hates things escalated to the point to which they did.
“It’s just sad that we had to lose potentially a whole building off somebody setting a fire,” he said. “Emotional people, y’all need to get help. Get some help man.”
According to a press release, two firefighters were injured in the fire. One firefighter suffered from second degree burns to the right shoulder. Another fireman suffered second degree burns to the right side of the face.
Both firefighters were listed in non-critical condition.
The fire department has not released a motive for the fire.
The Red Cross has stepped in to support all of the displaced residents by this fire.
