MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A woman was injured after a car crash on Interstate 40, leaving roads blocked early Friday morning.

According to the Tennessee Department of Transportation, a single-vehicle crash was reported on I-240 and Mt. Moriah just before 5 a.m. Going eastbound, the two left lanes of traffic were blocked.

A driver says the car in front of him swerved to avoid a collision with a Ford Ranger, which was stationary on the interstate. But he says he did not have enough time to move over and ended up colliding with the Ford Ranger.

The driver of the Ford Ranger says he was driving slowly with his hazard lights on due to car troubles. That is when he says he was rear-ended, possibly hit another vehicle, before going into a ditch about 25 feet from the road. His female passenger was ejected from the vehicle at that time.

Police say she was taken to Regional One Hospital in critical condition. She was later downgraded to non-critical.

The driver who hit the Ford Ranger is due in court on May 23.

Both vehicles were not drivable and had to be towed away from the scene.
