MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police have identified a suspect who they say is wanted for a homicide that happened at a Walgreens last month.
MPD said a warrant has been issued for Gregory Morton, 50, in connection with the shooting death of Juanita Washington on Dec. 29, 2021. The shooting happened on the 3100 block of South Perkins around 1:00 p.m.
Court documents reveal Morton is a convicted felon and has faced multiple charges over the years ranging from assault to attempted first degree murder.
Police say Juanita Washington was shot and taken to the hospital where she later died. Washington’s family said she had celebrated her 60th birthday one week before her death.
MPD released images of the suspect on Tuesday of a white Chevrolet van with “AG Lawncare” on the side. Surveillance from the Walgreens showed the suspect pulling up to the Washington’s car and firing multiple shots.
Police said the van was later recovered. The address for AG Lawncare is the same address listed for Morton. WREG stopped by Thursday evening but no one answered.
What’s unclear at this time is the motive for shooting. Washington’s family previously spoke with us about this unexpected loss.
“It’s a void, it’s a big void missing and missing, it’s literally like a piece of me is gone, its gone. it’s a hole there now. I’m mending but believe me I’m hallow,” said her husband Fred Washington.
