Suspect, victim named after deadly Southland Casino shooting

The West Memphis Police Department identified the victim as Orlando Garza, and the suspect as Travis Boyd. The charges against Boyd are unknown at this time.

WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. — One person is dead after a shooting at Southland Casino in West Memphis, Arkansas on Friday morning.

According to the casino’s director of communications, the shooting took place in the parking lot of the casino just before 4 a.m.

West Memphis Police confirmed that one person died as a result of the shooting, but they have not been identified.

WMPD says the incident was isolated and the casino has a security program in place that includes a weapons detection system at every entrance to prevent weapons from entering the building.

“The safety and security of our guests and team members is our top priority,” said Glen White, Director of Communications.

Southland released this statement:

“We want to share that our team and guests are safe following the recent, very isolated incident early Friday morning at our casino. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected.

“We’re proud that our safety protocols – including advanced weapons detection systems, extensive surveillance and thorough guest identification measures – ensured that no weapons entered our premises. These systems also played a critical role in assisting law enforcement with the necessary information for a swift and thorough investigation.”
