MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A woman was arrested on Friday after Memphis Police said she was responsible for shooting a teenager outside of a community center.
On Thursday at approximately 3:50 p.m., officers responded to a shooting in the 4300 block of Graceland Drive.
They were told that a teenage victim had been involved in a fight with another teenager when she was pepper sprayed by an adult woman, later identified as 43-year-old, Tequila Curry.

During the altercation, the victim heard gunshots and realized she had been shot in the arm.
The victim was taken to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital by the Memphis Fire Department for treatment.
As Curry fled the scene in a black Chevrolet Malibu, she allegedly fired another shot.
After investigation, it was revealed to officers that Curry was responsible for the shooting.
Curry’s aunt, who wished to remain anonymous, told WREG she helped raise Curry as a child and has a close relationship with her.
“She’s not the animal they are pretending she is,” Curry’s aunt said. “For her bond to be that high, I can’t believe it. I can’t. That was my little mini-me growing up. We did things I talked to her we played cards we did everything growing up. I don’t know this person there are trying to put together. It hurts my heart a ton just to find this out, but she’s not a bad person.”
She also offered a deeper understanding of what may have driven Curry’s actions.
“A mother would do anything to protect their children,” she said. “I hope what they’re saying is not true but as a mother, you have to protect your children, and I understand that.”
She’s been charged with two counts of aggravated assault, vandalism $1,000 or less, reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon, reckless endangerment discharging a firearm from within a motor vehicle, carrying weapons in public parks, playgrounds, civic centers, and other public recreational buildings and grounds, convicted felon in possession of a handgun and two counts of assault.
