MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police say a 60-year-old woman was found dead at the scene of a shooting Saturday night in Raleigh.

Officers responded to the 5100 block of Yale Road at 11:17 p.m.

The victim was later identified as Yvonne Nelson. She was found with multiple gunshot wounds.

Nelson was a philanthropist to the Memphis community for over 30 years. She was selected as the president of class 44 of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Training Academy, served as a commissioner with the Memphis City Beautiful commission, and spent 25 years as the president of the Whitehaven Community Development.

Multiple callers told 911 that the suspect fled the scene in a newer model black Infiniti sedan. A neighbor said Nelson recently purchased a black Infiniti.

Community leaders believe Nelson was carjacked although authorities have not confirmed.

Police on Sunday released photos of a woman they called a person of interest in the case.
