MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A girl was shot in the head at a park in East Memphis on Thursday morning, according to police.
Officers say they responded to the shooting around 11 a.m. at Willow Park in the 4700 block of Willow Road, across the street from Overton High School. A female teen was found suffering from a gunshot wound at the scene.
She was then taken to the hospital in critical condition.
MPD says the teen was fighting with individuals at the park when a male suspect in all black clothing fired shots. Police said he was in a silver SUV.
Overton High School was placed on lockdown following the incident. Memphis-Shelby County Schools says the lockdown has been lifted.
MSCS says the teen was not a student of the district. The district says it is fully cooperating with law enforcement.
This is still an ongoing investigation.
