MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A woman was critically wounded and a boy grazed by a bullet in a shooting Wednesday night in southeast Memphis, and witnesses say it happened as relatives gathered for a funeral repass.

Police and fire responded to the 4800 block of Cromwell near Outland at around 6 p.m. Relatives said a woman was shot outside an event space next to Cromwell Pizza & Deli. Police said she was taken to Regional One.

MPD said a juvenile was also injured and taken to Le Bonheur in non-critical condition.

Family members told WREG Family members were standing outside the building when someone drove by and opened fire.

“It’s upsetting to me. I’m trying to find out how my nephew is doing,” said a relative.

A relative who did not want to be identified said her 12-year-old nephew was the boy grazed by the bullet. She said the funeral was for the mother of the woman who was shot.

“I really don’t know what happened,” said the relative. “I just came up here after my mom called told my nephew was hurt and he was already gone.”

Christian Pitts works at Cromwell Pizza and Deli and said he heard 10-12 gunshots and realized someone had been hit.

“She was on the ground. The family went and got the sister and that is when they ran to the store and let the owner know,” said Pitts.

Police have not released any suspect information. Witnesses said they believed someone was waited in the parking lot for the family to come out of the event space.
