MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis, Light, Gas, and Water announced on Wednesday that Elon Musk’s xAI bill has been paid in full after some people within the community had concerns.

MLGW’s president Doug McGowen made a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, that xAI is treated like every other customer when it comes to their utility bill.

“If they do not pay they will be cut off. They [xAI] have paid in full and we collected late fees,” McGowen’s post said.

He also noted that the council heard the presentation for a grey water plant stating, “We share the desire to reduce the amount of drinking water used for coolant.”

This comes after xAI offered to purchase about 13 acres of city property to build a wastewater recycling facility to cool the company’s Colossus supercomputer in southwest Memphis.

Public Works accepted the company’s purchase offer and asked for City Council approval during a committee hearing on Tuesday.
