MEMPHIS, Tenn. — xAI is expanding in Memphis after purchasing a 1-million square foot property in Memphis, the Greater Memphis Chamber announced on Friday.
Property records show several parcels in the 5400 block of Tulane Road in Whitehaven were transferred Friday to CTC Properties, a company affiliated with Elon Musk’s xAI, for almost $80 million.
“xAI’s acquisition of this property ensures we’ll remain at the forefront of AI innovation, right here in Memphis,” said Brent Mayo from xAI. “We’re committed to expanding alongside this community and doing what’s best for the city. As we transform this property and enhance our facility, we’ll bring more employment opportunities and economic growth to the area.”
The new facility will support xAI’s existing operations, adding on to its Colossus supercomputer, which went online last year.
Back in December, the company announced the expansion of its supercomputer facility and said it was bringing major tech partners to the Mid-South. Additionally, tech giants Nvidia, Dell, and Supermicro Computer will establish operations in Memphis, officials said.
We’re excited to welcome Nvidia, Dell, and Supermicro to the ‘Digital Delta’,” said Ted Townsend, President and CEO of the Greater Memphis Chamber, in a news release.
Townsend offered few details about the three other tech companies he said were bringing operations to the city, but said his team is working with the new companies to identify locations and discussing the scope and scale of their operations.
