MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Young Dolph may be gone, but he’s still giving back to his South Memphis community.
Several hundred kids and parents turned out Wednesday for a giveaway for K-12 students on Castalia Street.
There were 300 backpacks to be given out with school supplies inside.
Memphis rappers and artists from Dolph’s PRE label, like Snupe Bandz and Paper Route Woo, helped pass out some of the book bags and greeted fans.
“It’s Dolph’s day. We are doing it for Dolph,” said Snupe Bandz.
It was the ’20th Annual Back to School Stop the Violence’ event. Organizers said they decided it hold it in the Castelia neighborhood because that is where Young Dolph grew up.
“He took care of his community, He cared about his community,” said Drew McCraven.
Young Dolph was shot and killed last November at a cookie shop also in South Memphis.
Two men are charged in connection with his death.
The rapper, whose real name was Adolph Thornton, would have turned 37 years old Wednesday.
