MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Jemarcus Johnson, one of the men accused of being involved in Young Dolph’s death, got additional charges Wednesday morning.

He is now being charged with three counts of accessory after the fact, along with his initial charge of conspiracy to first-degree murder, according to officials.

“The charges that have been filed now against Jermarcus make it clear he did things afterward and that’s the conduct that is critical when looking at Jermarcus Johnson in what was done afterward,” said prosecutor Paul Hagerman.

While he was in court Wednesday, Johnson also entered a plea of not guilty.

“We will waive reading of the information I’ve gone through with Mr. Johnson last night and we will enter a plea of not guilty at this point,” said defense attorney Josh Corman.

In May, Johnson’s attorney said he hoped to have a disposition or an announcement on his client’s case soon.

During May’s hearing, Judge Coffee said, “Mr. Corman has indicated that he’s worked with the state of Tennessee trying to see whether or not your case can be resolved– whether it can be separated or severed from your codefendants or charged defendants.”

Young Dolph, whose real name was Adolph Thornton Jr., was gunned down inside Makeda’s Cookies in South Memphis on Nov. 17, 2021.

Two suspects, Justin Johnson and Cornelius Smith, were picked up by police in Indiana not long after. Authorities believe they were the gunmen in the incident.

Hernandez Govan, 43, was indicted for first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder. Shelby County’s District Attorney says Govan is the man believed to have ordered the hit on Dolph.

Govan’s bond was paid, according to the Shelby County Jail system. He was released on Thursday, May 11.

Jemarcus Johnson turned himself into authorities last November, a year after the star was killed in South Memphis.

According to the indictment, Jemarcus Johnson and his three other co-defendants entered into an agreement with each other to commit the premeditated murder of Young Dolph. The indictment claims Johnson assisted one of his codefendants, Justin Johnson, with a hideout and helped him escape after the murder.

“I think the state has always acknowledged that this defendant, Jermarcus Johnson, had a much lesser role in the commission of these offenses,” said Hagerman.

His defense attorney asked for his case to be held until Friday and it could be resolved on that date, possibly with a plea deal.

“But apparently it has been resolved and I’ll see you on Friday morning and we’ll see if we can bring this case to a close for you on Friday morning, sir,” said Judge Lee Coffee.

Justin Johnson and Cornelius Smith had their status conferences reset to July 14. Hernandez Govan will be back in criminal court on July 13.
