MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The man who says he shot and killed an off-duty Memphis police officer in self-defense, has been indicted.
Lorenzo Clark and his wife Natalie are both indicted in Federal court on gun charges.
Investigators say Clark was found with several guns in his home, despite not being allowed to own a gun due to a previous conviction.
In 2002, he plead guilty to a felony charge of reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon.
In that case, he fought with and pulled a gun on a man who walked in front of his car.
Lorenzo Clark is indicted for having a Glock 9mm, a Colt 5.56mm caliber rifle and an Escort 12 gauge shotgun.
Natalie Clark is charged with providing those guns to her husband, knowing he was not supposed to have any guns.
In a court affidavit, Clark said he had the Glock on him at the time of the shooting.
Clark’s family members told WREG he Family members said Clark barely knew his neighbor, Officer Terence Olridge and insisted the two never had problems.
William Massey, who is representing Clark, said the two men got into an argument and the dispute escalated into an exchange of gunfire between the two neighbors on October 11.
Massey says there is evidence Clark was trying to defend himself from Olridge.
Police have said they do not have enough evidence to charge Clark and are not sure who fired the first shot.
